We are excited to announce a call for scores to commission 2 new works for string quartet sponsored by the Towson University New Music Ensemble. To apply, submit required materials via this Google Form by August 1, 2020. There is no submission fee. Direct any questions to bergamotquartet [at] gmail [dot] com. 

Timeline

  • August 1, 2020: Submission deadline

  • August 31, 2020: Winners announced

  • February 1, 2021: Scores due to BQ

  • April 21, 2021: Performance and lecture given by BQ at Towson University

  • April 24(?), 2021: Recording session at Towson University

Call for scores details

  • Piece: New 8-10 minute work for string quartet

  • Fee: $2500 per composer

  • Eligibility: All US residents are eligible to apply. Two composers will be selected, with a maximum of one winner from the D.C./Baltimore metro area.

  • The selection process will include two rounds of review. The first round will be blind.

  • Winners are guaranteed 1 performance and 1 professional recording at Towson University. Composers are invited and encouraged to attend the performance and recording session, but additional funding for travel and accommodation will not be provided.

Submission materials

  • One work sample (score in PDF format + optional recording; MIDI accepted; MP3/10MB limit); works with strings encouraged but not required. Label work samples with the title of your piece. Do not include your name.

  • Work samples must not contain any identifying marks. Work samples with identifying marks will automatically be disqualified.

  • String Quartet proposal (250 words max.)

  • Website (SoundCloud, YouTube, or other social media accepted in absence of a website)
